Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions Omaha-area families most often ask before getting started with Stone and Light Elder Companionship.

Elder companionship is non-medical support focused on social connection and presence. A companion visits a senior in Omaha or the surrounding area to spend quality time together — conversation, shared activities, a walk, or simply being there. The goal is to reduce isolation, improve quality of life, and provide consistency that the senior and family can count on.

It is not skilled nursing, personal care, or home health care. If a loved one needs medical assistance, we can help you understand what types of services might be appropriate alongside companionship.

No. Stone and Light is a non-medical companionship service. Our companions do not administer medications, provide medical oversight, assist with personal hygiene, or perform any skilled nursing functions.

If your loved one requires medical home care, we are happy to refer you to appropriate providers. Companionship services can work alongside medical care — many families use both.

Stone and Light is a good fit for seniors who:

  • Feel lonely or spend many hours alone each day
  • Would benefit from regular, friendly social visits
  • Have family who live out of town or have demanding schedules
  • Are in a care community and want additional consistent company beyond staff visits
  • Want regular check-ins that include an update to family

It is also for the adult children and family members who want to know their loved one is doing well and is not isolated — but cannot always be there themselves.

That depends entirely on your family's needs. Some clients are seen once a week, others several times per week. Visit frequency and duration are discussed during the intake process, and schedules can be adjusted as needs change.

We build consistency into every arrangement. Whenever possible, the same companion visits on the same days and times — because routine and familiarity matter deeply for seniors.

Our primary service area includes Omaha and surrounding communities: Papillion, La Vista, Bellevue, Elkhorn, and Millard. We have intentionally kept our service area manageable so we can remain reliable and present in every community we work in.
